In December 2017, the Department of Children and Youth Affairs announced ‘Early Years and School Age Childcare Services Capital Grants 2018’. The Capital programme in 2018 will invest in capital works and equipment contributing to ensure all children have the opportunity in their local area to participate in improved Early Years and School Age Childcare Services. The Early Years and School Age Capital 2018 will be delivered in five strands as follows:

·      Strand 1: Early Years Expansion/New (open to all childcare services)

·      Strand 2: Early Years Building Maintenance (only open to community childcare services)

·      Strand 3: Early Years Outdoor Play Area (open to all childcare services)

·      Strand 4: School Age Childcare Expansion/New (open to all childcare services)

·      Strand 5: School Age Childcare Essential Building Maintenance & Quality (only open to community childcare services)

There is one fundamental difference in terms of the grant application and appraisal process for 2018 and that is there will be only one call for applications in 2018 (one round of funding). The call for Early Years and School Age Childcare Capital grants will run simultaneously and applicants will apply for funding using a single application form. Applicants will be able to apply for Early Years or School Age Childcare grants or both on the same application form. Detailed application guidelines will be made available by DCYA/Pobal to Early Years’ Service Providers in the coming weeks.

Fingal County Childcare Committee will facilitate an information session in both Swords and Dublin 15 for Childcare Providers to discuss the upcoming Capital Funding 2018 process.
